Weekend Competitions

A rather unique competition was held last Saturday, that being the Bolt Barn Skins medley with just over 100 starters chasing the Skins money on offer. The 18 available skins were won by six different teams. The leading team with six skins were team Zaffino. They were followed by two teams with four skins each, team Townsend and team Nichols. With two skins against their name were team Tracey with the remaining skins shared by team Goodger and team Blair who secured a single skin each. Held in conjunction with the feature Skins event was a single Stableford competition in which Craig Heaslip (29) was the leading player with a outstanding individual 48 points. Next best in the individual event was the women’s Captain, Kaye Murdoch (13) who accumulated a more than healthy 45 points to claim the runner-up prize as a just reward for such a good round of golf. Terry Ord (18) dominated the nearest the pin awards on the day, picking up two prizes on 10th & 17th holes. John Frame (16) was awarded the Pro pin on the 1st, his tee shot finishing 98cm from the cup. The remaining nearest the pin prize went to Troy Henwood (14) for his effort on the 6th.

The Saturday competition was followed on Sunday with the Annual Naggers Cup competition. The numbers for that event may have been on the light side of things, however there was no doubting the quality of play. The competition format was an American foursomes, which was eventually won by the pairing of Janeen Roberts (20) and Neil Hayward (19) who dominated the field with a net score of 63.375 for the 18 holes. They were very consistent over that 18 holes recording a score of 39 strokes for each nine. Daylight was second, however in the numerical sense it was the combination of Di Alderman (31) and Jason Casserly (10) who recorded a gross total of 84 to claim the runner-up spot with 68.625 nett following the application of their 15.375 handicap. Pro balls in that event went down to teams with 69.750 nett or better, and they were the pairings of Cheryl & Allan Shanley, Mark and Hannah Blundell and Janet Pilgrim and Ken Radunz. The nearest the pin awards went to Leanne Danvers (45) on the 1st, Kaye Murdoch (11) claimed the 10th, Ken Radunz (15) was the star on the 6th with Neil Hayward (19) adding to his haul of trophies on the day by taking out the 17th.

Weekday Competitions

Tuesday competition last week was played in ideal weather conditions, which was enjoyed by 94 starters with the results at the top of the leader board separated by just one point. At the completion of the countback process it was Darron Hindom (25) who took the top prize from Brian Baldwin (22) both players on 42 points. Matt Tully (32) was the next in line with 41 for which he was awarded the 2nd Runner-up trophy. Matt also claimed the nearest the pin award on the 6th with Dean Sing (12) claiming the 10th, his tee shot finishing a close 63cm from the cup. Pro balls went down to 33 on a countback.

Coming Events

This coming Saturday the men’s competition will be 18 hole American Foursomes, with the trophies supplied by two of our great supporters of Grafton Golf, both as players and sponsors, Dennis Pye and Chris Wheelahan.

Veteran News

Throughout the year our Veteran golfers participated in Amgrow Veteran Challenge with the various monthly winner contesting the final last Tuesday. The winner of the final was Ray Evans who put together a score of 34 points for which he received a $100 G.D.G.C gift voucher. Ray qualified for the final with a strong 38 in April. The leading qualifier for the final of the Amgrow Challence was Bob Turns with a great score of 45 which he recorded in August. However he was unable to replicate that score in the final giving Ray the opportunity to claim his victory in the series. The Veteran fraternity appreciate the association of Amgrow with the Challenge series, which they have been a part of for the past several years.
