Weekend Competition
With the lifting of the preferred lies playing condition scores around the Grafton Golf Club course have returned to some form of normality. This was most evident in last Saturday’s Reece Plumbing Monthly Mug. The best score on the day was 69 nett, recorded by just two players, Darron King *21) and Karl Studd (20). Unfortunately there can only be one overall and mug winner and on this occasion following the required countback, Darron King was awarded the status of mug winner for February. Karl had to be satisfied with just the ‘C’ grade win, which he easily achieved with the next best player, Bob Turns (18) four shots in arrears with a 73. Bob had to claim the runner-up the hard way surviving a countback over Josh Donohue (21). ‘C’ grade was represented by 48 players of the total field of 129 starters in the event. Thirty-nine players contested ‘A’ grade and it was great to see Tony Blackadder (6) take the top spot in that grade with an excellent 71 from Mitch Hemming (6), Steve Camac (, Peter Sinclair (9) and Jim O’Donohue (7) who all completed their rounds with 72. Mitch eventually claiming the runner-up spot as a result of a countback. The remaining 42 players from the field of 129 all contested ‘B’ grade with Terry Brooks (15) the best of that group, recording a score of 71. Jamie Stockton (14) earned himself the runner-up spot behind Terry with a 27. Terry Bowe (16) was the sharp shooter on the 1st, his tee shot finishing just 207cm from the cup for which he received the Pro pin award which was applicable to that hole. The remaining nearest the pin awards went to John Frame (13) on the 6th, Peter Sinclair (9) on the 10th with Bradley Deece (9) the closest on the 17th. Pro balls went down to those on 76 or better.
Eagles Nest Shootout After a couple of false starts the McKimms Real Estate event was finally concluded at the completion of last Saturday’s competition. In the end it was Jackson Wright (1) who got the cash with the unlucky Bob Turns (18) who was the next closest to the pin on the 1st. Bob had to settle for bragging rights only for his effort.
Next Saturdays competition will be a the 2 Man Ambrose, Keno qualify ($5 entry), this event is the qualifying round for the 2 man Ambrose knock out with 8 pairs to qualify, once again sponsored by Grafton Glass, this will be followed on Sunday with the opening mixed event for the year, which will be a 4BBB Stableford and will be an 11am shotgun start, to enable the many social club games to go ahead.
Virginia Trip As advised by Club Captain, David Morgan, nominations for this year’s annual Virginia tour will close at 6pm this coming Saturday. The trip is planned for 24th/26th March with details of the complete tinier up on the Club notice board. Payment for the trip must be received by David no later than the 28th February. Failure by those nominated to settle these fees by that date will most likely see them excluded.
Buggy Shed It seems to have been a problem forever, that is the locking up of all the buggy sheds each day following both competition and social play. Once again all those who have their buggies accommodated in these sheds are requested to ensure they are locked no later than 4pm each day. This will ensure the security of all golf carts located in the sheds. This will also ensure that our volunteers are no required to lock the sheds on your behalf at all hours of the night should you have a problem with locking the shed, refer your concerns to an appropriate Board member.
