Putt’s ‘n’ Pars from Grafton Golf Club
Club Championships
Last weekend the first two rounds of the co-sponsored Greg Harvison Building & Design and Jacaranda City Coaches Club and Grade Championships were held with strong fields in all four grades. With rounds of 74 & 77, Greg Harvison (1), the 2018 Club Champion currently leads the Club Championship with a total of 151, three shots clear of defending Champion, Jackson Wright (+1) on 154. Also in contention for Championship honours at this time is Tony Blackadder (5) who currently sits on a score of 155, just four shots in arrears to Greg. Just thirteen shots separates the entire “A’ grade filed with everyone in that grade all in with a chance. In ‘A’ Reserve, with a score of 161 Matt Beetson (9) currently leads that group. Matt is then followed by Bradley Deece (8) with 165 one shot clear of Jason Casserly (6) on 166. Overall the gap between Matt and the last placed player in ‘A’ Reserve amount to 27 shots, which would indicate there are many players still in contention. Two players share the 36 hole lead in ‘B’ grade with Troy Henwood (14) and Damian Blair (15) both recording two round scores of 173. They have established a four shot margin over the next player, Allan Donaghey (14) who completed his 36 hole on 177. A total of 22 players are contesting ‘B’ grade with the gap between the first and last players amounting to 24 shots. Twenty two players are contesting ‘C’ grade with both Sam Herd (19) and Terrence Ord (18) leading that player contingent with 187 from the next best, Trevor Lascelles (17) one shot in arrears with a score of 188.
The remaining two rounds of the 2023 Championship series are to be held this coming weekend with those players remaining in contention to be playing in a seeded draw on Sunday, which obviously will be determined following Saturday’s round three.
Monthly Mug
Saturday’s first round of the Championships also incorporated the April Monthly Mug as well as round one of the Clarence Valley Rural & Industrial Supplies Winter consistency trophy. The mug sponsored by the Grafton Motor Group. There was no doubting the winner of the April Monthly Mug, with Tony Blackadder (5) a more then dominate winner, easily winning the mug with a great score of 68 nett, even more outstanding when you consider that that score was achieved when playing under the pressure of Championship golf. Matt Beetson (9) was awarded the win in ‘A’ grade with a score of 71 from Greg Harvison (1) who finished on 73. Damian Blair (15) was the star in ‘B grade by finishing with a score of 70, three shot clear of his nearest grade rival, Rob Miller (13) who completed his round with a nett score of 73. Just the one shot separated the winners of ‘C’ grade with Jason Disson (23) claiming the grade win with a score of 71 from Tony Miller (26) with 73 on a countback from Gary Cook (21). Overall there was a total of 120 players contesting the mug competition and the one player to be awarded with the Pro pin on the 1st was Ted Strong (24) who put his tee shot 212cm past the cup.
