Grafton Golf Club Putt’s ‘n’ Pars


A strong field of sixty- five golf Professionals contested last Friday’s Dougherty Property Grafton Pro Am with some very impressive scores being recorded. The Pro Am hosted by Grafton Golf Club was played in ideal playing conditions on a course which was highly praised by all the Professionals, especially impressed with the greens. Leading the Professional contingent with a more than outstanding score of seven under par 65 was Brett Rankin who was followed by Tim Hart, Dillon Hart and Brett Arnott, who all finished 6 under par with Michael Wright the next best 5 under par. I

In the amateur division of the Pro Am, Henri Arnold (23) took out the major prize with a strong 39 points. In the shootout which followed the 18 hole competition, Mark Hackett (9) was the best of the amateur contingent for which he received a golf package courtesy of the Bonville International Golf Club. The Professional component of the shootout was won by Amelia Meknet-Grohn who picked up a very handy bonus of $500 for her effort.

No doubt due to the success of the Pro Am, Grafton Golf Club will again host another event in 2024, which recognizes Grafton Golf Club’s organization ability with the assistance of Grafton Golf Club’s Professional, Mark Harvison and the undoubted ability of the course staff, under the direction of Dean Niland to present a top class 18 holes for such a prestigious event.


Following the Pro Am on Saturday a 18 hole single Stableford was held attracting a field of 104 starters. Two players, Bill Dudgeon (18) and Dean Sing (14) both recorded scores of 42 points from which Bill was announced the overall winner on the day with Dean named as the winner of ‘B ’grade from Danny Pachos (15) with 40. Once again Graham Tracey (10) featured in the results, taking out ‘Á’ grade with 38 one point clear of Jackson Wright (+1) with 37. Brad Mostyn (18) claimed Ç grade from Jock Macpherson (18) who completed his round with 35. The regular Saturday competition was followed on Sunday with the 2023 Mixed Foursomes Championships which were decided over 27 holes with a gross score of 115 the father and daughter combination of Annalese McKee (8) and Matt McKee (+1) were the undoubted Champions, establishing a 14 shot buffer to their nearest competition Heather Purtill (12) and Brian Napper (10) who finished on 129. In the handicap scheme of things, Heather Robinson (28) and David Morgan (13) were victorious with a score of 108.25 against their names.


Playing conditions

All players should note that the use of mats has been reintroduced on areas of rock on both the 14th & 15th holes only. This change took effect Monday (24th July and will remain in place until further notice.

In regard to bare patches in the general area. You are permitted to take a card length preferred lie only, a drop is not permitted in these circumstances. Should you require further clarification on either of these playing conditions refer to Club Captain, David Morgan.


Demonstration Day

Our Club Professional, Mark Harvison, in conjunction with golf manufacturer Taylormade will be conducting a demonstration day on 14th August, commenci8ng at 10am till 3pm. Any one wanting to take this opportunity to try out the latest golf equipment can do so, however you must make an appointment. Just contact Mark in the Pro Shop and he will allocate an appropriate time to you.
