Putts and Pars

Putt’s ‘n’ Pars from Grafton Golf Club

Weekend Results

Sponsors of last Saturday’s Monthly Mug, McLennan & Deece Optometrists, would be pleased with the Grafton golfer turnout with a total of 124 starters made up by 36 A-graders, 36 B-graders, and the remaining 52 players making up the C-grade division. Playing off a handicap of 18, Andrew J. Fletcher was the star on the day claiming the mug with a great score of 66 nett, two shots clear of the field. Apart from winning the mug he also qualifies for the Golf Mug playoffs to be held later in the year. The countback process had to be employed to determine the outcome of A-grade with both Greg Harvison (1) and Simon Loadsman (8) completing their rounds with 71 nett, with Greg being awarded the win. Also with 71 unfortunately on the wrong side of the process was Tim Bartlett (3). However Tim did pick up a consolation prize by claiming the nearest the pin award on the 17th which is some reward for a good round. Club Captain, David Morgan (13), had a rare moment of conscience by putting together a really good round resulting in a score of 68 nett which was good enough to take out ‘-grade from Koopah Walters (14) with a net 70. Two other players Andrew Sear (22) and Frank Petty (18) both recorded 68 nett to be awarded with the win and runner-up spots respectively in C-grade which was a good result for recording the second best score on the day. Ron Phillips (16) had a good result on the 1st claiming the Pro pin with his tee shot finishing just 126cm from the pin, just edging out Tim Bartlett for the prize. On the 6th it was Jordon Weller (12) who got the cash. Unfortunately the nearest the pin parker relating to the 10 hole had not been retrieved at the time of preparing this report. From the 14 players who completed their rounds with 75, just 2 of them, John Dahl (9) and Noel Allen (21) qualified for a pro ball together with those who finished on 74 or better.

News

In news just to hand, the Grafton pairing of Greg Harvison and Hollie Fuller successfully defended their 27 hole Northern Rivers Golf Association Mixed Foursomes Championships, on this occasion hosted by the Kyogle Golf Club. This Champion combination recorded a gross score of 110 for the 27 holes, establishing a five shot buffer over their nearest rivals. The result caps off a big couple of weeks for young Hollie who had just returned from Hawaii where she competed with distinction, representing Australia in the Jack Newton Junior Golf International tournament hosted by Pearl Country Club in Hawaii. Congratulations to both Greg and Hollie for their win in representing Grafton Golf Club.

Coming Events

Next Saturday the event will be a 2 man Ambrose, not the Stableford competition as detailed in the official programme book. The event will also serve as the qualifier for the State Keno competition for which a competition fee of $5 per player will apply on top of the regular competition fees.

For those players who regularly compete in mixed golf competition, this coming Sunday a mixed event will be held with the competition also being a 2 Person Ambrose over 18 holes. This event, not unlike the men’s Saturday competition will also serve as the qualifier for the NSW Keno Ambrose titles. The competition fee for those teams wanting to qualify, a $5 fee per player will apply.

Those golfers who recently competed in the Herron Cup 36 hole competition and may have qualified for a trophy are asked to check the notice board to determine if they were one of those trophy winners as many of those trophies remain unclaimed. Should your name be on that trophy list contact either a member of the match committee or bar staff and they will arrange for the appropriate trophy to be given to you.

Nominations are now open for the 2023 Scramble on line at the Scramble.com.au the event scheduled for Sunday 20th August and will commence with a shotgun start at 9.30am. For playing conditions and any other enquiries you may have contact Mark Harvison in the Pro shop or phone 66425413 for details.
