Putt’s ‘n’ Pars from Grafton Golf Club
Club Championships
With four rounds of 78,76,75 and 69, totalling 298, 2021 Club Champion, Jackson Wright (4), was named as the winner and 2023 Club Champion in the co-sponsored, Greg Harvison Building & Design and Jacaranda City Coaches, Club Championships series. Jackson went into the 4th and final round of the series three shots in arrear to runner-up Greg Harvison (1), however with a blistering final round of 69 enabled him to scrape in by just the one shot and claim the title. Greg put together four rounds of 74, 77, 75 and 73 for a total of 299 to just miss on the title, which he last won in 2018. In third place despite playing a limited golf programme in recent times was Tony Blackadder (5) who finished the series with a total of 312 against his name, which also was a strong effort. A play-off was required to sort out the “A” Reserve contingent with both Matt Beetson (9) and Jason Casserly (6) tied on a four round total of 327. At the completion of the first three playoff holes Matt was one shot ahead of Jason and was awarded the ‘A’ Reserve Champion status. Matt was also named Nett trophy winner for the series with a score of 291 from Tony Blackadder on 292. Just four shots separated the leaders of ‘B’ grade with Brenden Cotten (14) named as the winner of that grade with a total of 352 from runner-up Allan Donaghey (14) who completed his four rounds with 356 gross. In ‘C’ grade the results were very tight at the top of that grade with Terrance Ord (18) claiming the title by just the single stroke with a score of 376 from Trevor Lascelles (16) who finished on 377. No doubt the Championship series is enhanced by the continuing sponsorship of both Greg Harvison Building & Design as well as Jacaranda City Coaches (David & Leanne Morgan), that association with the series is more than appreciated by all those players who took part in the Championships.
Weekend golf
Advanced Coast Security also contributed to the weekend golf by sponsoring both the Saturday 18 hole competition and Sunday’s 18 hole competition. The overall winner of Saturday event with a nett score of 72 was Bill Dudgeon (17). ‘A’ grade was taken out by Matt McKee (1) with 73nett from Rowan Butcher (9) also with 73. Trevor White (13) was the winner of ‘B’ grade also with 73 from Stephen Summerell (13) with 73. The prominent score in all three grades was 73 nett with the first and second place getters in ‘”C’ grade also finishing with that score, Chris Gannon (38) and Gary Pym (24) having to survive the countback process and that was the order they finished in. From the 120 players who contested the Saturday event only some of those with a score of 77 won themselves a Pro-ball following a countback. Nine players finished on 77 only four of those players scored a Pro-ball.
In the Sunday 18 hole competition, Robert Bell (17) was the stand out player with a score of 68 nett. Two of the stars who featured in the 72 hole Championships series also claimed the ‘A’ grade trophies, Tony Blackadder and Jackson Wright who led the ‘A’ graders with scores of 69 and 70 respectively. Another Championship star, Brenden Cotten claimed the win in ‘B’ grade on 70 from Sebastian Cox (14) with 72. The winner of ‘C’ grade was Terrance Ord with 72 from Andrew Sear (23) with 74. Pro-balls for the Sunday competition went down to players with 75.
