Putt’s ‘n’ Pars from Grafton Golf Club

Grafton Golf Club has a great reputation in its support for various charities throughout their golfing programme. Coming up in a couple of weeks is another charity event which deserves support from all golfers, both competition and social golfers. The focus on 14th October is the annual “doing it for Jarrod” day fundraising compaign promoted by Challenge and hosted by Grafton Golf Club. All proceeds raised on the day is forwarded to challenge-supporting kids with cancer, a continuing project honouring Jarrod Lyle who became a leading golfer on the world stage and displayed great courage throughout his shortened life and golf career. For those golfers who are supporting the fundraiser the competition on the day will be a 18 hole single Stableford for both mens and womens competitions with everyone taking part encouraged to wear something yellow in honour of Jarrod. Players can assist the fund raising efforts by the donation of a gold coin, or for non golfers a donation can be made through our Club Professional, Mark Harvison. “Challenge- supporting Kids with cancer” is a not for profit organization that strives to improve the day to day lives of children living with cancer and their loved ones by providing them with daily personalized support in and out of hospital. Challenge receives no government funding and any support our Club members can provide will be greatly appreciated by that organization and all those that it supports.

There has been some extraordinary scores recorded over the past few weeks, with none better than that achieved by Troy Cochrane who put together a tremendous round to record a more than outstanding 49 points in las Tuesday’s Members/Veterans competition. Playing off a then handicap of 33, Troy recorded 23 on the front nine, backing up that effort with a further 26 around the back 9. Even more remarkable his score included a wipe on the 16th, no doubt Troy will be further awarded for his good golf with a rather substantial adjustment to his handicap. Runner-up to Troy in the members division was Craig Haase (18) with 42, Bill Heath (21) continued his really good recent form of late to take out the 2nd runner-up spot with 40 on a countback from Paul Harvison (7), and Dek Pabian (19). Pro balls in the members competition went down to 34points. Troy was not eligible in the Veterans division, victory in that was awarded to Craig Haase for his 42 points with Billy Heath claiming the 1st runner-up spot with Paul Harvison winning the 2nd runner-up trophy. Pro balls for the Veterans going down to 34 on a countback.

Last Saturday’s 18 hole Stableford attracted a good field of 110 starters from which Bill Dudgeon (17) became the winner with 44 points. Á’ grade was dominated by a couple of Langford’s. Craig Langford (5) just edged out Paul Langford (7) with 43 to Paul’s 42 effort. Scores were a little more realistic in ‘B’ grade with Paul Hewitt (16) putting in a score of 39, 2 points clear of Karl Studd (16). Tony Daly (18) recorded the 2nd best result on the day matching Craig Langford’s 43 to be awarded for that excellent effort with the win in ç’ grade. Three points in arrears to Tony in that grade was Bob Chapman (36) with a score of 40 on a countback from Jim Packwood (21). Pro balls went down to several players on 35 following a countback.

According to the official programme of events, the October events for men’s Saturday competition begins this coming Saturday with Southside Butchery Monthly Mut.
