Putt’s ‘n’ Pars from Grafton Golf Club
Junior Golf News
The Friday afternoon junior golf clinics resume again this Friday with the normal free lessons available to all aspiring junior golfers commencing at 4pm. The best news relating to those clinics is that the lessons are not only free but are open to all genders. These clinics have been well supported in recent times with up to 20 young golfers regularly taking up the challenge and the opportunity to be taught the basics of the game, under the guidance of our Club Professional, Mark Harvison. At the same time making it a fun time as well as being introduced to a great and healthy sport. In the recent Yamba Junior Tournament, Grafton Golf Club were represented by a team of five golfer who all performed really well, and proved to be great ambassadors for our Club. Lucas Hull put in a great effort by winning the 9 hole net event with a outstanding score of 35 nett. Well done Lucas, and congratulations from your Club and team mates for that effort. The remaining team members all played well and gained great experience heading into the Iluka Junior Tournament this coming Sunday. However in the mean time, Mark is looking forward to welcoming as many junior golfers as possible this Friday for a fun afternoon at the same time enjoying a great healthy sport.
Weekend Competition
Last Saturday a field of 106 players participated in the Southside Butchery October Monthly Mug. Two players, Simon Loadsman (7) and Graeme Lynn (19) (our popular barman) recorded scores of 64 nett for the 18 holes. Unfortunately there can only be one winner and following the countback process, Simon eventually was awarded the overall win. Graeme had to settle for the win in Ç’ grade and at the same time bask in the glory of a three shot reduction to his handicap. Despite recording a hole-in-one on the 10th, Paul Harvison (7) could only muster a total of 71 nett to claim the runner-up spot in Á’ grade in which Jason Casserly (10) was victorious with a 69. Competition was tough in ‘B’ grade with three players all finishing with 70. In the end it was Chris Wheelahan (12) who was awarded the win from runner-up Peter Tracey (13). Kin Li (15) had to be satisfied with just a pro ball for his 70. Chris’s score undoubtly enhanced with his nearest the pin effort on the 17th. As mentioned earlier, Graeme Lynn was the winner of Ç’ grade, completely dominating that grade with the next best score being recorded by Trevor Townsend (17) with 70. The Pro pin on the 1st was achieved by Andrew Brien (19) with a great effort, his tee shot finishing just 38cm from the pin. Pro balls went down to players with 74 or better.
This coming Saturday will be the designated “Doing it for Jarrod Day” with the competition to be a 18 hole single Stableford. Funds raised on the day will go directly to Challenge-supporting Kids with Cancer who are funded completely from those fund raising activities by the entire golfing fraternity, as they do not attract any Government funding in support. A tradition relating to this event is that all players are encouraged to wear yellow in recognition of Jarrod Lyle and his past association with this organization.
